The Holland centre-back is highly thought of and is expected to leave Ajax this summer.

That's after he helped the Dutch side to a Champions League final and an Eredivisie title.

De Ligt made 55 appearances for Ajax this season, netting seven times from defence as well as providing four assists.

And that has seen the likes of Barcelona, Manchester United and Liverpool linked with the teenager.

But De Ligt is not sure where he wants to play next and will take his time in making a decision.

"I still do not know what my heart says, I have been concentrated all the time in Ajax and in the national team," he told Mundo Deportivo.

"Now in my vacations I will be able to think about it and decide what I am going to do with my future."

When asked about joining Barcelona and why he was thinking about his options De Ligt explained he was uncertain of the timing.

He added: "Because maybe it's not the time yet, it's something I have to think about and decide during my vacations, nothing more."

De Ligt admits he would like to play with Lionel Messi and Frenkie de Jong at the Nou Camp but he needs to do what is right for him.

He said: "Of course it would be nice, but I must also look at what is best for me."

The 19-year-old also underlined that the most important thing for him is to be playing week in, week out.

"For me, the most important thing is to know that in the team where I go I can have prominence and play many games," he added.

Although uncertain of a move to Barcelona, De Ligt insists he isn't scared of the competition.

He explained: "Of course Barca has great defences, but the competition is not something that scares me.

"It is logical and normal that in a great club such as Barca there is competition."

United are desperate to strengthen their side this summer after a dismal season which saw them finish sixth in the Premier League.

A centre-back is a top priority with the likes of Phil Jones, Chris Smalling and Marcos Rojo all on the chopping block.

Leicester star Harry Maguire and Napoli ace Kalidou Koulibaly have been linked as possible alternatives to De Ligt.
