Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is under pressure and Ed Woodward could act if results worsen.

Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s difficult season went from bad to worse with their drab, dire goalless draw with AZ Alkmaar in the Europa League last night.

The Red Devils named a strong team with the likes of Daniel James, Juan Mata, Nemanja Matic, Fred, Victor Lindelof and David De Gea all starting.

But Manchester United, once again, failed to deliver and are yet to win a match away from home since their famous Champions League victory over PSG.

And with Solskjaer under pressure, and talk of the sack beginning to emerge, we look at the only three managers United can turn to.

Massimiliano Allegri

Given he’s currently out of work, having walked away from Juventus at the end of last season, Massimiliano Allegri would be the favourite to take over if Solskjaer were to go.

The Italian is a decorated coach and one who is viewed as among the best in the business right now.

Allegri has helped sleeping giants out in the past, winning the Scudetto with AC Milan during his time there.

While at Juventus he won the Serie A title every since year - but came up short in the Champions League.

United would no doubt go for an A-lister if Solskjaer was to go and it’s feasible that Allegri would jump at the chance to take over at Old Trafford.

Thomas Tuchel

Reports last month suggested Manchester United were monitoring Thomas Tuchel’s situation at PSG amid their own plight under Solskjaer.

The German will likely leave the club at the end of the season should he fail to guide them to Champions League glory.

Tuchel has deployed attacking football at both Borussia Dortmund and at the Parc des Princes.

That would chime with what United fans want. Under Solskjaer, it’s barely been seen - particularly this season.

Tuchel also manages young players well having helped evolve the likes of Kylian Mbappe and Ousmane Dembele, among others, during his managerial career.

Mauricio Pochettino

Mauricio Pochettino’s stock has fallen since Tottenham’s Champions League final defeat to Liverpool in June.

But the Argentine has long been admired by Ed Woodward, with interest dating back to the manager’s time as Southampton.

Pochettino comes across as a man who wants out of north London.

He was keen on the United job when Jose Mourinho left and could jump at the chance to take it should the opportunity present itself.

Whether or not Tottenham would block any move to Old Trafford, though, remains to be seen.
